TORONTO INNER CITY TEENS ON CIRCUIT: THE COUNTDOWN.

The workshop in the auditorium wasn’t successful at all. Yes, we did all participate, but it took 2/3 of the time for them to get set up. I think Dwight Drummond saved our workshop because he actually had something interesting to say.

I think the issue about that woman’s speech has been talked about by Kaworu and Krystyna already. I wasn’t offended by her presentation but I certainly did not think she should have done that. This might have been TICTOC’s fault, maybe they should have informed her that we’re a public school? The other thing is the issue with her kid, the way he was fooling around on stage was totally inappropriate. Now I am aware that he is a little kid(4, 5, 6 yrs old?) and that he probably does not understand the situation, but the way he was running around on stage did negatively affect his mother’s presentation… maybe if he was informed of the situation… he would have stayed in one place?

I don’t know who scheduled our assembly, but I would like to be first in line to kick their heads and beat them until they turn into bloody-fied pulp. In case they actually read this:

A SERIOUS PRESENTATION ABOUT VIOLENCE FOLLOWED UP BY RAP PERFORMANCES= DISMISSES THE PURPOSE OF THE PRESENTATION!!!

I was disgusted at the rest of the assembly. I don’t think there was any purpose to that rap performance. The music was way too loud, which means that even if they did have some sort of important message to express, it has been rendered useless due to the fact that no one can understand what they were saying due to the loudness of the audio.

The entire purpose of the assembly has been pushed aside so that some of the students can grinding each other’s body to some music that probably caused years worth of damage to their ears. Our class was stationed at the back of the main floor, right next to the students who were making loud noises and was only there to get prizes(these were the same mindless freaks who went to the front to get their ears blasted). I heard from three or four of these students who said that while they were up there, they saw other students who were literally trying to dry hump(can I use this on AP?) the performers who came down the stage to hand down some sort of paper. I would like to know what THIS has to do with the purpose of The Countdown?

Speaking of the performer’s interaction with the students…

WHY WERE THEY HANDING OUT ADVERTISEMENTS TO US? THIS IS A EVENT TO PROMOTE KIDS TO STAY IN SCHOOL. IT IS NOT A PLACE FOR YOU TO BE PROMOTING YOUR LATEST CD FEATURING LYRICS DETAILING SEXUAL POSITIONS OR SOME COUPON TO A NEW NIGHT CLUB WHERE PEOPLE CAN DRY HUMP EACH OTHER.

DJ TRINIBOY <– should be killed, I was sitting next to the doors in the back and still could not stand the scratches he made. IT’S CALLED A VOLUME BUTTON.

The purpose and goal of TICTOC is great, but their delivery was not effective at all. The students who needed this event to motivate them to say in school probably did not get the message because so much of it was covered up by the entertainment and the drama of wanting those prizes while the people who are already well informed got to spend two to three hours getting loud noises blasted into their ears. Just to back up my point here:

-Winner of the PSP: Congratulations {NAME HAS BEEN EDITED OUT}, you can now motivate yourself to stay in school by learning about the human anatomy by having the ability to watch porn(I’m sorry Jo.) on-the-go. Or maybe you can use this prize as a way to drain your bank account by purchasing games and UMDs for the console… YEAH, THIS PRIZE WILL TOTALLY MOTIVATE YOU TO STAY IN SCHOOL!

-Winner of the $400.00 certificate: I actually think this is a pretty good prize… it makes a good mother’s day present?

-Winner of the basketball: {NAME HAS BEEN EDITED OUT}, you little speech(after you got off the stage) about how you always get the crappy prizes totally shows that you actually understood the purpose of this event.. maybe you can show that you learnt something today by actually showing up to block A from now on?

I am not attacking these students directly, most of the students would have fought each other for a chance to win those prizes. But as someone who is in the targeted audience of The Countdown, I don’t think the assembly was effective at all.

I think the organizers of TICTOC for next year(if there is going to be one) should take everything that happened this year, and improve on their decisions on the organizing of the event.
